The music on the radio suddenly stopped. The announcer came on. "We are bringing you breaking news. Large flying ships have come from behind the moon, out of the sky, and are dislodging black clad warriors who are attacking...."

The invasion had begun. A backward society found itself at war against an advanced, space-traveling race. The fighting would envelop the whole society tearing nations and families apart.

Pethran and his two sons struggle with a new reality not of their making. One son fights the aliens, the other is captured and forced into the galactic navy. The father struggles to carry life on without them. This is truly the end of the innocent.

End of the Innocent (Audible Audio Edition) Clark Graham David George Books

Not a bad premise going in, that an alien invasion tears apart society and leaves the survivors fragmented and attempting to survive in their own way, but ultimately End of the Innocent fails to deliver. At the start, I was pulled in thinking that there would be a deeper presentation of the depths needed to survive during a military occupation, but the length, coupled with the myriad of overlapping stories, took away from the experience.

Worldbuilding was weak to non-existent as the aliens who were invaded, as well as the ones doing the invading, were carbon copies of humans, aside from mixed-up names that didn't stand out from each other. The invaded ones, still called 'men,' lived in a 20th century agricultural world with radios, airplanes, firearms, etc. The invaders were assembled like a normal navy with familiar power squabbles and spoke to those they subjugated with perfect English. I held on to the end, thinking that there might be a twist where both races were human, but alas, that was not the case.

A copy editor is needed as well. Naming conventions were followed only loosely and I found several errant grammar mistakes which didn't help. Beyond that, the writing style felt extremely simple: 'Greten was stiff when he got up. He then turned to Hal to shake him awake. It was then he remembered that Hal wasn't there. The realization made him sad.' ...sorry, the heartstrings aren't exactly being pulled.

End of the Innocent (Audible Audio Edition) Clark Graham David George Books Reviews

This book is really full of action and intrigue. I enjoyed the battles and the space travel and the suspense with the families being separated by war. I highly recommend this book to all readers who have a vivid imagination!
Not a bad concept but slightly under-developed. But the real problem is the poor editing that keep bringing you out of the moment while you read, problems a spell checker may miss. Things like almost duplicated sentences and other errors (Like peace vs. piece and incorrect contractions ( "you're" can not be universally substituted for "you are".) This is a common with his books, but he does have some good storylines.
The cover art attracted me, along with the subject matter. However, the characters feel a bit wooden and one-dimensional. The storyline about the alien invasion works fine. Out gunned, overwhelmed the natives fight a desperate fight against aliens that come in spaceships. A fun tack I like to read.

The book is okay but the common formula does have a rousing reading feeling. This isn't an over technical read like "Brothers in Valor," which spends pages on how things work; yet, the explanation of alien tech is pretty oversimplified too. In the end, the characters didn't warm my heart, the battles were simply described and things felt simplistically explained. My thought was this might fit for a middle school audience.
It was not the worst book I have read, but it is not one of the better ones either. The story seemed fragmented, and the character development was weak.
A good story and complete. No need to buy another book to follow along. I don't know if the author will write a sequel or how it would unfold.
A very practical story without a lot of drama. I enjoyed it and it made me think about what would happen on earth in a similar situation. Dialogue was a little stilted, and the story didn't always flow smoothly. More description like what denorian predators were like and some incidents would have added to the story.
CG has written a novel of invasion, death and conscription. The war is a short war because of superior weapons. The new rulers are determined to develop a multi-racial space army with the captured men drafted into the new Empires Army. This is an excellent read for the genre.....ER
